Bob Portway

BSc: Honours Degree in Civil Engineering, Kinston Polytechnic, July 1975.
CEng: Chartered Engineer from December 1980.
MICE: Full member of the Institution of Civil Engineers.

I have had two and a half years site experience working on construction sites prior to 29 years design office experience, gained partly with Consulting Engineers, and partly with precast concrete manufacturers.

I was employed in the Civil Engineering Department of W. S. Atkins and Partners in Epsom, where I worked on a veriety of large projects including underground concrete structures, and foundations for heavy industrial structures in steel making plants, power stations, and defence installations.

I worked for 4 years in the Bedford office of an established Structural Engineering Consultants office, where the work ranged from commercial office blocks to nursing homes and from new build housing, to refurbishment of town center department stores.

My work for the major precast concrete manufacturing companies over a 14 year period included design of prestressed concrete elements as well as non-standard concrete structures such as spiral staircases, concrete elements in sports stadiums and precast concrete basements.

For the last 4 years I have been working as a Director of Stroud Associates based in suffolk.

My workload includes a wide range of projects from new build school extensions and prestige housing to barn conversions, house extensions, and also domestic surveys and reports. I also work on commercial developments in the region of £1.0million - £1.5milliom.

I am conversant with all current structural materials and the British standards recommending their use.
